One of the greatest challenges of successful sustainable broadband adoption projects (including Connect Your Community) is access to low cost broadband. We are attempting multiple solutions, one of which is [...]
The Connect Your Community (CYC) program provides broadband training, equipment and support for 26,000 low-income individuals and their households in seven separate communities – Cleveland; Akron; Appalachian Ohio; Detroit, MI; Lexington, KY; Manatee County, FL; and Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, NC.
The CYC project helps participants understand how broadband can enhance their world – whether the goal is to be a more competitive member of today’s workforce or to simply experience more of our world.
Participants gain and upgrade computer skills through CYC’s free training.
Participants have opportunity to equip homes with an extremely affordable computer.
Participants have opportunity to stay online with (free or very affordable) high-speed Internet access.
Participants experience one-on-one assistance to find the online resources they need the most.
CYC is already making a huge difference in citizens’ lives. Here’s just one example:
I just wanted you to know that following last Thursday’s class, I went to a child care facility and spoke with the director about possible employment. Well, turns out the director hired me on the spot. I was so excited!!! Had it not been for you and the other instructors in our class I would not have had the confidence to go and even inquire about a job. Also, I would not have had the knowledge that I needed to bring to the director that I spoke with in order to get the job.
