In their own words…

CYC participants at the metropolitan campus of Cuyahoga Community College write meaningful use narratives as they learn MS Word 2010 & appreciate the typing tutorial used to warm up at the start of class. The following are portions of email attachments from some of those students:

F. Hogue – Enrolled in the Health Information Technology program after learning about the opportunity, she writes, ”To have a computer would enhance my learning in education by enabling me to perform an on line course.  This class have benefited me by skills learned for example word processing,  email and attachment, propose a flyer by changing the color, size and graphic images.  It would also enhance value by gaining employment for the changing environment in the work place.  This has been an learning environment, yet a fun class as well.  It has enabled me to perfect skills previously acquired.  The lessons within sense-lang.org typing tutorial will continue improving typing skills to become faster with less mistakes.”

S. Parker - Gave an impressive Power Point 2010 presentation as a finale of her class, she writes ”Thank you so much for this basic computer class.  I have returned to college and the knowledge obtained from your class has inspired me to take more computer classes.  The Internet knowledge was truly needed. I use the Internet for college studies, research, medical and bill pay.”

T. Gale - Took the training course with her husband, she writes, ”Having a computer and therefore access to the Internet adds incalculable value to my life. Any question I might have can be answered, I can find out what’s happening anywhere in the world, the world of recipes is at my fingertips and I can play bridge on line. Looking for a job online is the best way to find out what’s available in the area and the best information is on line, rather than in print as in the future.  There are a number of websites that are specifically for job searches, applying online and finding out about the company you are applying to. I can keep in touch with family and friends through Facebook and send pictures over the Internet.  Shopping can be done online and is easier and often less expensive than running around to the stores. The most important thing about having a computer is that you are connected to the rest of the world, even if you are housebound.  One is able to stay very well informed with a computer, much more so than one would be without a computer.”

M. Rucker -Brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the learning environment others got inspired too.  She writes, ”Having my own personal computer and Internet has added value, because I am in pursuit of continuing my education and building skills. They help to improve my typing skills, and allows me access to seek information and resources needed to do so. I am learning how to become more independent to bring about balance to my future endeavors.”

T. Austin -Took the computer course with family members, she writes, “Having a computer and Internet has added value to my usage, because it will help me while I am attending college courses, and further my education with computer access. Also I learned how to go to different tutorials lessons. I learned the proper names for the different icons in the ribbon area, and how to change the styles and colors on different documents. I enjoyed learning more about how to operate the computer system.”

Also, having the TLC staff assisting in the classroom, directing calls, co-teaching, helping with logins, user names, passwords, and S numbers, providing information about programs, and knowledge regarding software options available to community users at the college such as Keyboarding Pro, were key instruments in making the CYC classes a positive experience for participants!
